Wind
Yesterday's
windmill's were used for pumping water, grinding grain or sawing
lumber.

Today's
giant wind turbines are grouped to form wind farms and create
electricity, which can produce hydrogen by electrolysis, resulting in a
completely renewable hydrogen source.
Renewable
Hydrogen Projects
The Anmore Renewable Energy Foundation in British Columbia is
building a Renewable
Energy Centre that will include wind, micro hydro and solar to
produce hydrogen.
Utsira
project --- The hydrogen plant on Utsira has started
producing electricity. This means that the 10 households in
the island community west of Karmøy are one step closer to
becoming a self-sufficient hydrogen society. The 2-3 year
full-time operational test is slated to begin July 1, 2004.
Utsira chief councilor Robin Kirkhus says, "Come
and see for yourselves!", as the Utsira Wind-to-Hydrogen
project formally opens July 1, 2004.
Winds
of change blow on Utsira's opening day --- Norsk Hydro --- Jul
1, 2004 --- The tiny island of Utsira west of Haugesund received a
lot of attention on Thursday when Hydro's wind and hydrogen plant
was officially opened. This project demonstrates that Hydro
"takes the energy challenges of the future seriously,"
said petroleum and energy minister Thorhild Widvey.
P.U.R.E. (Promoting Unst Renewable Energy) --- Project to use
wind to produce hydrogen on the island of Unst in Shetland, UK is
under way.

Yakushima Island, Japan has published a study

hydrogen.
Community wind power is gaining speed, as more local
communities learn about the advantages of producing their own
electricity from wind in their areas. Lawrence Berkeley
National Laboratory has published a paper
on how several state governments are helping local communities use
cooperatives to take advantage of this renewable resource.
